A celebrity I follow on Instagram (ugh what has my life become?) posted a picture of her two gay friends getting married last weekend in NY. The picture instigated a series of hateful messages not just towards homosexuality (it’s expected, given the world in which we live), but also retaliation hate messages about religion and Christianity. This stemmed from the fact that some users were quoting the bible to “prove” that homosexuality is wrong.

Now, I’m all for gay rights and marriage and equality for all. But I am also for respecting people’s beliefs. I’m not going to go around insulting what you were raised to believe is true, and in return, don’t insult what I believe.

This world is so fucked up NOT because we live in a world of sin or ignorance… It’s because we lack RESPECT for one another.

No religion is stupid. No belief is stupid. Everyone believes what they feel is right, and it’s a choice we are lucky to be able to make every day. Can’t we just respect each other and move on?

Sigh.

PS: Related but not: One ignorant user wanted to use science as proof that homosexuality is not normal, saying that “no animals in the planet are gay”. … Other species use homosexuality as a check on population size buddy. You can’t reproduce too much, otherwise your population becomes too big for your environment to sustain and your species will die out.
